How to use the Silver Reunited website

Our website contains a number of features to help you to find or sell silverware items.

Searching for Silverware

You can search our database of silverware by a number of criteria using our search function. This function is available to any visitor to the website. You can search by:

• Category
• Hallmark
• Crest
• Year
• Assay Town
• And other keywords

Simply select the category of silverware you are interested in, type any text you wish to search for, and click the search button. Alternatively you can leave all fields in the search form blank to peruse the whole of our silverware database.

Matching silverware is displayed in blocks of 5. A few details about the items are displayed, with an option to view the full details of the item, including a larger image and images of hallmarks/crests. However, to view full details you must have signed up for a user account.

Signing up as a User

Signing up as a Silver Reunited user is free of charge, and allows you to view full details of silverware, purchase the contact details of silverware owners, and post your own silverware to the database for others to view.

When signing up, we need your name, your email address, and optionally your postal address, telephone number and a short paragraph about yourself (your profile). If you wish to post silverware items and allow other users to contact you, it would be best if you include your postal address and telephone number.

After inputting these details, you will be emailed a username and password for the site, which you should input into the login page. When you are logged in, you can access the user admin section to change any of your details if you wish.

If you ever forget your login password, you can retrieve it by visiting the 'forgotten your password' page.

Posting a Silverware Item

You must be logged in to post silverware items. On the post silverware page there are a number of fields for you to input your information. These are:

• Category: This should correspond to the type of item you are posting. If the item is particularly unique, you will probably have to select the 'Others' category
• Item Name: A descriptive name for the item
• Hallmark: If known, the names of any hallmarks on the item
• Hallmark Image: If you have an image of the hallmarks, you can upload it here (see the section Uploading Images below)
• Crest: If known, the names of any crests on the item
• Crest Image: If you have an image of the crests, you can upload it here (see the section Uploading Images below)
• Year: If known, the year of production
• Maker: If known, the name of the item's maker
• Assay Town: If known, the town of the item's production
• Size: Any sizes known of the item
• Weight: If known, the weight of the item
• Details: Any text description you wish to give for the item
• Main Image: If you have an image of the item, you can upload it here (see the section Uploading Images below)

When you have submitted this information, your silverware item is immediately available in the searchable database. If you make any mistakes in the inputting of data, you can correct them later through the user admin system.

Uploading Images

All images uploaded to Silver Reunited must be in JPEG format. Size does not matter, but if images are extremely large, our software will automatically re-size them for you when the item's details are posted.

To upload an image, click on the relevant 'Browse' button. This will open up a dialog window showing your computer's hard drive. Using this window, navigate to the location of the image on your computer and double click on the image.

Purchasing Contact Details

When you are viewing the full details of a silverware item, you are given the option to purchase the contact details of the person who posted the item. Perhaps you have a similar item, or just find the item pleasing. If you wish to get in contact with the owner, you can do so by clicking the 'Purchase the owner's contact details' button.

Clicking this button will lead you to an interim page telling you the cost of the owner's information. Clicking the 'Proceed >>' button will transfer you to our secure server, where you may input your credit or debit card details to purchase the information. After payment is authorised, the information you requested is emailed to the email address specified in your profile.
